Education, Activities, & Organizations
In many ways the Oratory is a ‘come as you are’ community. While this is true, we hope that it isn’t a ‘stay as you are’ church. The deepening of our lives in Christ implies an ongoing transformation. This happens in a preeminent way through our sacramental worship but also through prayer and study and the exercise of fraternal charity in community. Ss. Gregory and Augustine's is a very small church, and feels more like an extended family. Our activities and organizations at this stage of our history reflect that identity: we gather very informally for coffee, refreshments (often homebaked!) and conversation after the 10:30 Sunday Mass; but our parish organization and social clubs are in their early days of formation. In the coming year we will see what interests develop and what sorts of groups will be formed.
In addition to being very young itself, Ss. Gregory and Augustine is particularly blessed with a great many young families whose children provide us with a joy and vibrancy that is one of our greatest treasures. Educating them in the faith and the practice of piety is the second highest priority of our community. To this end we have reestablished the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine to assist the Rector in the Catholic education and formation of the whole parish, and particularly the children of Ss. Gregory and Augustine, especially as they prepare for First Holy Communion and the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Children’s Catechism Classes
There are many opportunities for people to become involved in the Childrens’ education program. In addition to the volunteer teachers, the Church School program would not be possible without the support and expertise of Mrs. Marilyn Lonigro, who organizes and supervizes the teaching. High School age students also have the opportunity to assist the teachers with the younger children.
Classes meet after the 10:30 AM Mass on Sundays during the Parish Coffee Hour.
Registration Sunday is the first Sunday in May and classes begin the second Sunday of May for children who have begun the first grade.
