Father Dominic Lenk

God’s gift to some was that they would be teachers (1 Cor 12:28), and it is clear to all who know him that Father Dominic has been blessed with the desire, ability, and patience necessary to hand on the faith to the next generation. After a short stint as the Director of the Senior Citizen Nutrition and Activity Center in his hometown of Troy, he started his teaching career as a Computer Instructor at Watterson College where he would eventually be honored as a Professor Emeritus. It was at this time that he brought his teaching skills to the abbey, its parish, and in particular its school.

In addition to teaching, Father Dominic has been blessed with a few more of the diverse gifts mentioned in 1 Cor 12:28, namely the gift of helping others and the gift of administration. Caring for and helping others is indeed a high priority for this pastorally minded people person who spreads God’s love and his faith to those around him via thoughtfulness and self-sacrifice. As any good teacher would, he teaches more by example than by words. As Economus, he helped run the abbey’s finances for several years, and proved invaluable to Abbot Thomas in the day-to-day administration of the monastery.

Fr. Dominic’s obvious gifts as a spiritual leader and administrator inspired the Abbot President of the English Benedictine Congregation to select him as part of a revitalization team for Saint Anselm’s Abbey, our sister house in Washington, DC. After much prayer, Father Abbot and Father Dominic accepted the Abbot President’s request, and he is currently serving as a joint member of both communities through 2009.
