Father Augustine Wetta
Father Augustine keeps life at the abbey fresh and interesting in a way that only a published writer, surfer, beach lifeguard, teacher, coach, professional juggler, gardener, rugby player, archeologist, rosary maker, icon painter, carnivorous plant enthusiast, and amateur movie director could.
One’s first impression of Father Augustine is likely to include his wit and youthfulness, but those who know him well would surely add that he is passionate about Catholic orthodoxy, literature, and his writing – some of which has been published in “The Saint Louis Review,” "You! Magazine," and broadcasted on National Public Radio.
After graduating from Rice University, Father Augustine went on to work at archaeological digs in Italy and Greece. A year studying ancient languages at the University of Pennsylvania led him to the University of Missouri, where he intended to pursue a PhD in Classics. Instead, he found a call to become a monk. He took solemn vows on January 1, 2000 and was ordained a priest on September 27, 2003.
