Father John McCusker PDF Print E-mail

The call to be a monk had been recurring in Fr. John’s life since his seventh grade year at Priory. This call grew stronger during his remaining years at college and his first year teaching at an inner city school in Chicago. He gave the monastic life a try after his first year of teaching, and he soon found that it fit him. While Fr. John is equally at home on the golf course, in the classroom, or going to his family house in South Bend to catch a football game, he seems most at home when he is busying himself with the works of the monastery, praying, singing, meditating on the scriptures, or working quietly in the gardens. The way that this monk joyfully goes about each of these activities quietly shows how this way of life brings out his true self. Yet, it’s not until you hear him speak passionately about the liturgy or Gregorian Chant--or any other issue of Catholic theology--that you begin to sense the depth of his true calling as a man of prayer and son of the Church.
